Goin' Green

I'm Jessica, a 17-year-old girl on a mission.

For the past year, I've been a raw foodist off and on. The times I was, I felt GREAT. Noticing the difference food makes on ones overall well-being is truly remarkable. Over the summer I was NOT raw at all, and I suffered the consequences. I gained 15 pounds, my skin looked bad, I lost motivation to exercise, I lost confidence, and the list goes on.

Now it's my time to get my beautiful self back... all with the help of green smoothies!

Why green smoothies?
They're amazing. They are exactly what food should be... medicine!  When raw, I tend to drink a fair amount of these guys, so I'm familiar with them and I know the good they're capable of. I become totally optimistic, energized, spontaneous, focused (I'm school, so this helps A LOT), motivated, inspired, etc. My personality changes for the better, and I start seeing life with an entirely different perspective. The physical changes are immense as well. My skin starts to glow, my body becomes baby-soft, I get through exercises more easily (and exercise more!), I sleep less, I lose weight, my cellulite vanishes, my flexibility increases, etc. I actually workout way more because I need a release for all my energy.
I'm not over-exaggerating. Green smoothies are awesome :)

Here are the goals...
     - drink at least 5 green smoothies/day for at least 14 days
     - work out at least 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes
     - no cooked/processed foods, whatsoever
     - no dairy, meat, or sweeteners (even if raw)

Here is what I hope to achieve...
     - lose 2.5 pounds per week (5 pounds in 2 weeks)
     - get back the glow in my skin, remove blemishes
     - gain confidence
     - gain physical endurance
     - detoxify! with which, a hundred other health benefits with surely come.

My green smoothies usually include 1 banana, 1 whole bunch of kale or collards, and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. At most, there are two fruits, but I generally keep the fruit content low. Other than that, I sometimes substitute the banana for a different fruit, the bunch of kale or collards for a different bunch of green, leafy veggies, and/or the coconut oil for a different fat.
Unlike many who aim to lose weight, I'm going to keep fats and carbs in my diet. I believe that an all-healthy diet should include a wide range of natural, raw foods.

I'll keep an update. Wish me luck!
